Midwest Research Institute Achieves LEED Gold
Midwest Research Institute has attained LEED Gold sustainable design certification for the renovation of its headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. The 80,000-sf project included renovation of two wings in the existing 250,000-sf facility. The renovation was designed by PGAV Architects with J.E. Dunn Construction Group as general contractor.
Toshiba Builds Fab 5
Toshiba will begin building Fab 5 in July of 2010. The facility will produce 3000mm NAND flash wafers and is slated for completion by spring of 2011. Fab 5 will be located at Toshiba’s existing manufacturing campus in Yokkaichi, Japan. The facility’s cleanroom will feature waste heat recycling to reduce carbon emissions.
Sanford Health Consolidates Research Facilities in Sioux Falls
Sanford Health is consolidating its medical research operations in Sioux Falls, S.D. The facility will open by June of 2010 upon completion of renovations to the existing structure, a former computer parts manufacturing plant. Housing laboratories and offices in two joined towers, the 300,000-sf complex will include a vivarium for animal research.
UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School Receives Stimulus Funding for Lab Renovations
The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School was awarded $15 million by the National Institutes of Health in March of 2010 to support laboratory renovations. The award will enable UMDNJ-NJMS to conduct advanced biomedical research in updated lab facilities.
MGS Manufacturing Constructs Cleanroom Facility
MGS Manufacturing Group began building a Class 100,000 cleanroom in March of 2010 in Germantown, Wis. The $1.3 million injection molding facility is slated for completion by mid-2010. The 6,250-sf facility is sited in an existing 186,000-sf building.
