Embraer Aviation Europe Builds Composites Facility

Embraer Aviation Europe initiated construction in November of 2010 on a 330,000-sf composites facility in Évora, Portugal. The $48 million project will support lean manufacturing processes for the production of advanced airframe structures and components. The contractor for the excavation work, foundations, and infrastructure is Ramos Catarino S.A. of Febres. Completion is expected in late 2011 with production beginning in 2013.

Iowa State University Completes Biorenewables Complex

The first phase of the Biorenewables Complex was recently constructed at Iowa State University, further establishing ISU’s reputation as a leader in agricultural and engineering research. The 72,000-sf building for the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering has 24,000 sf of large, open/flexible research and teaching laboratory space for biochemistry and microbiology. The facility has been nominated for LEED Gold certification.

Meritus Medical Center Opens in Hagerstown

Meritus Medical Center will open its $293 million replacement hospital in December of 2010. Located in Hagerstown, Md., the 510,000-sf facility features an integrated layout for ease of patient navigation. The hospital will house an emergency department, a trauma center, advanced surgical suites with ceiling-mounted equipment, and a birthing center. The facility features 267 single patient rooms and a 3T MRI instrument.

Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota Opens Minneapolis Expansion

Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota celebrated the opening of its $230 million expansion in Minneapolis in November of 2010. The facility features entirely private patient rooms, an expanded emergency department, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, surgical suites, and a comprehensive cardiovascular care center. The project is part of a $300 million development that will include expansion of the existing St. Paul hospital, which is slated for completion in 2011.
