Internet Security Systems Plans New Atlanta HQ
Internet Security Systems Inc. has plans for a 240,000-sf corporate headquarters in the Central Perimeter area of Atlanta. A development by R.J. Griffin & Co. called Mount Vernon Place, scheduled to break ground in late 1999, will house approximately 1000 Internet Security employees in two five-story buildings slated for occupancy in November 2000. R.J. Griffin & Co., acting as project contractor, anticipates building a 60,000-sf addition for the company within three years.
HOK Publishes Guidebook to Sustainable Design
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- HOK, (Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum),Inc., the world's largest architectural firm (World Architecture, January 2000) and a leader in sustainable design, releases its' first book on the subject in September 2000. "The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design" was authored by Sandra Mendler, AIA, formerly with HOK, and William Odell, AIA, HOK director of sustainable design.
Los Alamos Nat'l Lab Awards Five-Year Contract
U.S. Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory has awarded a contract for comprehensive engineering design and construction services to a team comprised of San Francisco-based URS Corporation, Burns & Roe and Technical Design. The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract runs for five years, with five option years, and has a potential value of $25 million per year.

A new bill introduced in February 2000 called the Truthfulness, Responsibility, and Accountability in Contracting Act - Contracting (TRAC) Act," H.R. 3766, "Prohibits any Federal agency from making a decision to privatize, outsource, contract out, or contract for the performance of a function currently performed by such agency or to conduct a study to convert a function from Federal to contractor performance."
New England Biolabs Builds in Ipswich
New England Biolabs is planning a $32 million, 300,000-sf facility at a 109-acre site in Ipswich. Phase I construction will renovate an existing 50,000-sf historic building at the site as well as add a new 150,000-sf structure. August 2003 is the anticipated completion date for Phase I. Phase II will complete the project with construction of an additional 100,000 sf of new facilities.
