New Data Center Planned for NE D.C.
Fowler & Flanagan, of Larkspur, Calif., is transforming two vacant warehouses in Northeast D.C. into a technology center. The 120,000-sf warehouse site has what telecom companies are looking for: high ceilings, heavy floor load capability, open floor plan, and proximity to fiber-optic lines. Fowler & Flanagan have built similar facilities in Los Angeles, Phoenix, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Kansas City, Mo. The project manager is Total Site Solution.
Celarix Relocates Headquarters to Cambridge
Celarix Inc. has relocated from its 6,000-sf building in Boston to a new 20,000-sf headquarters in Cambridge designed by Cambridge-based Perry and Radford Architects. Unusual amenities in the building include a "sleeproom" and a "playroom" for employees. Celarix specializes in software and online services for the transportation industry. The new facility was built by Elaine Construction Co. of Newton, Mass.
Internet Security Systems Plans New Atlanta HQ
Internet Security Systems Inc. has plans for a 240,000-sf corporate headquarters in the Central Perimeter area of Atlanta. A development by R.J. Griffin & Co. called Mount Vernon Place, scheduled to break ground in late 1999, will house approximately 1000 Internet Security employees in two five-story buildings slated for occupancy in November 2000. R.J. Griffin & Co., acting as project contractor, anticipates building a 60,000-sf addition for the company within three years.
HOK Publishes Guidebook to Sustainable Design
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- HOK, (Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum),Inc., the world's largest architectural firm (World Architecture, January 2000) and a leader in sustainable design, releases its' first book on the subject in September 2000. "The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design" was authored by Sandra Mendler, AIA, formerly with HOK, and William Odell, AIA, HOK director of sustainable design.

A new bill introduced in February 2000 called the Truthfulness, Responsibility, and Accountability in Contracting Act - Contracting (TRAC) Act," H.R. 3766, "Prohibits any Federal agency from making a decision to privatize, outsource, contract out, or contract for the performance of a function currently performed by such agency or to conduct a study to convert a function from Federal to contractor performance."
