GiantLoop Network Renovates Waltham Facility
GiantLoop Network has hired Peabody Construction of Boston to renovate an 89,000 sf facility in Waltham, MA. Technological upgrades are included in the project cost of $2 million.
Metrics Opens Lab, Production Facility in Greenville
Metrics opened its new 44,000-sf grassroots R&D Labs and Production Facility at the Indigreen Corporate Park in December 2000. The facility comprises 19,000 sf of analytical, dose evaluation, trace metals and raw materials labs; more than 7,000 sf of Class 100,000 cGMP manufacturing area with a fluid bed dryer; and 10,000 sf of offices. The GMP facility enables Metrics to develop, manufacture, and pack oral solid and liquid dosage forms and topicals.
Nordic Technology Park Under Construction in Riga
Nordic Technology Park, a 43,500-sm building formerly used as a Soviet military communications factory, is being converted to an office building for the Baltic high-tech industry. American architects Arrowstreet of Somerville, Mass., working with Latvian architects Valenius un Stepe, are completely renovating the structure.
American Red Cross Breaks Ground on Washington Headquarters
The American Red Cross has broken ground on a new 750,000-sf national headquarters facility. The Red Cross Chapter House, an historic 85,000-sf structure, will be part of the new design by D.C.-based Shalom Baranes Associates, along with a 10-story office tower. The Clark Construction Group will build the new facility, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2002.
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Plans Biomedical R&D Complex
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has plans for a $500-million biomedical R&D complex at Janelia Farm in Ashburn. Bioinformatics, biomedical imaging, and gene protein research will be conducted at the facility, which will accommodate more than 300 scientists and support staff. Dormitories will provide accommodations for visiting researchers. Construction at the 281-acre site is scheduled to begin in 2003; completion is scheduled for late 2005.
