U.S. DataPort Complex Redesigned
U.S. Dataport, based in San Jose, Calif., has abandoned plans to build a 3,750,000-sf, $1.4-billion data center in Gainesville in favor of a general high-tech business park housing office and light manufacturing space for products such as telecom gear or computer chips. The 192-acre site will also provide 400,000 sf of data center space, a $300 million independent power plant, and a Virginia Railway Express station for transporting the potential 3,000 workers to the business park.
Media and Technology Charter School In Design Phase
Media and Technology Charter High School (MATCH) selected HMFH Architects Inc. of Cambridge, Mass., to design its new Boston campus--a 20,000-sf building. The general contractor for the project is A.J. Martini Inc.
Vitasoy Relocates to Massachusetts
Vitasoy USA Inc. is closing its offices in South San Francisco and moving its corporate headquarters to a 180,000-sf facility on 12 acres owned by Vitasoy in Ayer, Mass. Vitasoy makes tofu and soy products. The company is a subsidiary owned by Vitasoy International Holdings Ltd. of Hong Kong.
Children's Hospital of Oakland Plans Expansion
The Children's Hospital of Oakland is planning a $24-million, 13,300-sf expansion as well as a 14,960-sf renovation. The project would provide MRI space, expand ER facilities, and increase diagnostic rooms.
National Hispanic University Plans New San Jose Campus
National Hispanic University is planning to develop the 11-acre site of the former Fred Martin Elementary School in San Jose as its permanent home. The 60,000-sf facility is scheduled for completion in 2003. Site purchase was made possible by over $11 million in funding raised by the school, along with donations from Sobrato Development and the David and Lucille Packard Foundation.
