Cleveland Clinic Completes New Digestive Disease Center

The new 55,000-sf Digestive Disease Center for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, is the largest specialty facility of its kind in the nation. Designed by van Dijk Pace Westlake Architects, the $10 million Center joins together the departments of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Colorectal Surgery. van Dijk Pace Westlake Architects renovated the third floor of the Cleveland Clinic's Crile Building. The purpose of the project is to combine all of the disciplines related to digestive disease in one outpatient facility.

Construction of Coverdell Biomedical Research Facility Planned

The Coverdell Biomedical Research Facility is slated for construction in Athens, Ga., expanding University of Georgia research programs in areas such as vaccine development, emerging global diseases, and ovarian cancer. The $40 million facility was made possible by $10 million in federal funds, $10 million in state funds, and $20 million from the University of Georgia.

Allied Telesyn Expands R&D Operations in RTP

Bothell, Wash.-based Allied Telesyn Networks Inc. is looking to permanently occupy a 300,000-sf facility in Raleigh to allow expansion of its research and development operations. Funded by $10 million from its Japanese sister company Allied Telesis, the producer of Internet related hardware and software intends to form a new data networks integration center. Allied Telesyn plans to add 60 employees including new researchers designing networking hardware and software.

University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center Planned

The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor has planned a new cardiovascular center, including educational, research and clinical components. Located on the university's main health science campus, the free-standing facility will be designed and programmed by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott.

SDSU Plans Sorority Housing

San Diego State University has contracted Steinberg Group of Los Angeles to design a 2000-unit, 6,000-student sorority housing project. Located on 1.56-acres, Sorority Row will accompany SDSU's current fraternity housing project in an effort to decrease traffic congestion and increase parking inventory, as underground parking for the housing developments frees up spaces in SDSU parking garages. Construction is slated to begin in 2002 with occupancy estimated for the summer of 2004.
