University of Michigan Constructs Mason and Haven Hall Addition and Renovation

The University of Michigan is connecting Mason Hall and Haven Hall with a $38-million, 213,000-gsf renovation project. Eight stories will be added to Haven Hall, the interior space renovated, and the main entry demolished with an addition extending to the south end of Mason Hall. Haven Hall, with new mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications systems, will house new office space for History, Political Science, American Culture, and the Center for African and Afro-American Studies.

Synygy Plans Corporate Headquarters

Synygy, an employee benefits compensation programming and software company, has commissioned Syska Hennessy Group to design new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems as well as the acoustics, audiovisual, telecommunications, and lighting for a new corporate headquarters. The 163,500-sf tenant fit-out projects is being undertaken in the historically significant Chester Station in Chester, Pa. The building is one of the best-preserved and most monumental early power plants in the U.S. dating back to 1917.

University of Michigan Medical School Builds Biomedical Science Research Facility

The University of Michigan Medical School is building the new $220-million, 472,000-gsf Biomedical  Science Research Building  on its Ann Arbor campus. Containing 240 lab modules, each accommodating up to four researchers, the facility is designed to promote group interaction. Project features include an animal research facility, two levels below grade, and a 300-seat auditorium.

USDA Modernizes Ames Research Facility

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK) of St. Louis contracts to oversee initial projects of the Ames Modernization Program, a five-year, $430-million upgrade of the USDA animal disease research facilities on a 480-acre site in Ames, Iowa. The program will rebuild and centralize multiple laboratory and research centers, creating state-of-the-art laboratory and office environments in a campus designed for optimum functionality, flexibility, security, and future expansion.
