Saint Vincent College Builds School of Business, Economics and Government

Saint Vincent College is building a new facility to house the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government on its campus in Latrobe, Pa. Designed by Pittsburgh-based architectural firm Tasso Katselas Associates, the $3.2 million, 20,000-sf project involves the renovation of four floors in Aurelius Hall. Completion is expected in spring of 2005.

Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Plans New Headquarters

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has selected J.E. Dunn Construction Co. to manage the construction of its new 600,000-sf headquarters. Sited on 15.7 acres in Kansas City, the facility is expected to reach completion in late 2007 or early 2008. The headquarters will house 1,100 workers.

St. Vincent's Hospital Expands Emergency Department

St. Vincent’s Hospital has expanded its Jacksonville, Fla. emergency department from 12,000-sf to 29,000-sf. Increasing bed count from 30 to 49, the expansion project cost $4 million in construction costs and $900,000 for new equipment. Nineteen exam rooms were added, with six equipped for the needs of patients experiencing chest pain. The project architect was JSA Inc., with engineer Tilden, Lobnitz and Cooper and contractor Auld & White Constructors. The facility opened on September 15, 2003.

Polaris Opens Fluid Analysis Facility

Indianapolis, Ind.-based Polaris Laboratories has opened a new fluid analysis testing facility in Houston. The 5,000-sf laboratory, which can complete most routine testing in 24 hours, has the capacity to process 3,000 samples per day. Polaris provides fluid analysis testing to the transportation, power generation, and gas compression industries.

Virginia Tech University Develops Supercomputing Facility

Virginia Tech University is working with Emerson’s Network Power unit to develop a new state-of-the-art supercomputing facility. Emerson, based in St. Louis, designed and installed a cooling system for the supercomputer that does not occupy needed floor space. The supercomputer consists of a cluster of 1,100 personal computers.
