Emerson College Constructs Piano Row Dormitory
Emerson College will break ground on its new 185,000-sf dormitory in early 2004. Sited in midtown Boston, the 600-bed project dubbed "Piano Row" will facilitate completion of the college's relocation from its previous Back Bay location. Designed by Stubbins Associates of Cambridge, the building will stand 14 stories above ground with three underground stories including a tournament-regulation basketball court. Completion is expected by fall of 2006.
Synthon Pharmaceuticals Constructs Mebane Manufacturing Facility
Synthon Pharmaceuticals is planning to build a new $20 million pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Mebane, N.C. The 130,000-sf building will house corporate offices, R&D, and drug manufacturing operations. Groundbreaking is expected in early 2004. Synthon Pharmaceuticals is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Netherlands-based Synthon B.V.
GlaxoSmithKline Opens Zebulon Manufacturing Plant
GlaxoSmithKline has opened its new 220,000-sf manufacturing facility in Zebulon, N.C. The facility will employ 250 workers engaged in manufacturing inhaled respiratory products, including a device called the Advair Diskus.
Embrex Develops Poultry Vaccine Production Plant
Embrex, a Durham-based agricultural biotechnology company, is building a new $11.6 million, 30,000-sf poultry vaccine production facility near Laurinburg, N.C.
Applied Biosystems Completes First Phase of Biotech Campus
Applied Biosystems has completed the first phase of its planned 960,000-sf, 80-acre campus in Pleasanton, Calif. Two of the seven buildings have been completed, providing 258,000-sf of lab and office space. A two-story building accommodates offices, cleanrooms, and research laboratories with custom-designed and fabricated chemical distribution systems.
