United Therapeutics Constructs Ovarian Cancer Research Lab

United Therapeutics will construct a 40,000-sf ovarian cancer research lab and pharmaceutical manufacturing building adjacent to its headquarters in Silver Spring, Md. The $15-million lab is part of a 190,000-sf biotechnology campus planned by United Therapeutics. The new facility will manufacture OvaRex, an alternative to chemotherapy, in bulk for shipping to third-party manufacturers that will form it into pills.

Lahey Clinic Plans Burlington Expansion

The Lahey Clinic is planning a $135 million expansion of its Burlington, Mass. hospital. The project will add over seven stories, over 70 beds, a cancer center, four operation rooms, and a four-level parking garage with 1,200 spaces. The Lahey Clinic currently has 259 licensed beds.

Georgia Tech Plans Nanotechnology Center

The Georgia Institute of Technology will construct the Nanotechnology Research Center on its Atlanta campus as early as next year, with official occupancy to follow in three years. Funded by a $36-million pledge from an anonymous donor, the facility will be sited where the university’s old nuclear reactor building now stands.

Neurocrine Biosciences is developing the first phase of a 13.4-acre project in San Diego's Carmel Valley. Designed by Dowler Grumman Architects, the 200,000-sf, two-building project is being constructed by Ledcor Petty Construction.

Sul Ross State University Initiates Science Renovation and Addition

Sul Ross State University has selected the San Antonio office of Corpus-Christ-based Braselton Construction Co. as the general contractor for a $13 million science renovation and addition project. The laboratories of the Warnock Science building will be completely renovated, including upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. A 11,000-sf, three-story addition to the Warnock facility will house two 80-seat lecture halls and a 60-seat planetarium/lecture hall.
