Vista Community College Builds in Berkeley

Vista Community College will begin construction in spring of 2004 on a new $45.9 million building in Berkeley, Calif. The 165,000-sf facility will accommodate 5,400 students and is slated for completion in September of 2005.

Kaiser Permanente Opens Livermore Medical Clinic

Kaiser Permanente opened a new 70,000-sf medical clinic in Livermore, Calif. in mid-December 2003. The two-story facility will accommodate basic adult and pediatric services, a pharmacy, women’s health, optical sales, and X-ray/laboratory services. An additional 20,000-sf may be developed at the site in the future.

UC San Diego Expands Biomedical Library

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has awarded McCarthy a $13.3 million contract to add 39,600-sf to the existing biomedical library and to renovate the attached biomedical library structure on the La Jolla campus. General contractor McCarthy will construct the library addition while the existing library remains operational. Upon completion of the addition, the new library area will open while the existing building will be vacated and renovated, with an end result of one contiguous 74,690-sf facility.

Eden Medical Center Plans Castro Valley Complex

Eden Medical Center has awarded Skanska USA Building the pre-construction services and construction management contract for its new Castro Valley, Calif., complex. Once the project enters the construction phase, the anticipated construction value for the project is expected to be approximately $180 million. The complex is being built in four phases. Phase I consists of a new three-story, 60,000-sf ambulatory care center/medical office building, including four operating rooms, support space, and physician offices above a 250-stall parking garage. The first phase will be completed in 2006.

Genentech Purchases Redwood City Building

Genentech Corp. will locate 130 information technology employees in a 65,000-sf building recently purchased in Redwood City, Calif. The facility is located in the Mid-Point Technology Park, a site previously occupied by ExciteAtHome.
