GSA Plans Headquarters Renovation

The General Services Administration is planning the 710,000-sf renovation of its Washington, D.C., headquarters. Designed and engineered by Shalom Baranes, Studios and Syska Hennessy Group, the project is estimated to cost between $110 million and $130 million. The design process will reach completion by February 2005 with occupancy expected in the first quarter of 2009.

Los Angeles Harbor College Develops New Facilities

Los Angeles Harbor College is planning two new campus structures: the 39,000-sf  Student Services Building and the 68,000-sf Northeast Academic Building. The facilities will be sited on the college’s Wilmington, Calif., campus and will be constructed to meet LEED Silver certification. The $8.5-million Student Services Building, scheduled for completion in summer 2005, will consolidate available campus services and administration offices into a one-stop center.

Lafayette Library Develops Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium

The city of Lafayette, Calif., is planning to construct the Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium at the new Lafayette Library and Learning Center. Created by twelve Bay Area educational and cultural institutions, the project is comprised of a 25,000-sf library and an attached 1,700-sf community room. Slated to open in 2006, the project is the first of its kind in the nation in size and scope. The collaborating groups are the Lawrence Hall of Science, Chabot Space & Science Center, Oakland Museum of California, Commonwealth Club of California, John Muir/Mt.

ViaCell Occupies Cambridge Science Center

Cellular medicine company ViaCell will relocate its headquarters to 43,000 sf of lab and office space at Cambridge Science Center in Massachusetts. The facility, previously known as Riverview I, is being converted by Equity Office to accommodate 130,000 sf of laboratory space. An 18-story tower, previously named Riverview II, houses 148,000 sf of office space. ViaCell’s footprint of 25,000-sf of lab space and 18,000-sf of office space in the adjoining tower is connected by a common lobby.
