Naval Facilities Engineering Command Plans Dahlgren Facility

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington has awarded Skanska USA Building a design/build contract for the new Naval Network and Space Operations Command Center at the Dahlgren Naval Surface Warfare Center in Virginia. The construction value is $17 million. The project will include a new 75,000-sf building that will be linked to the existing Building 1700. Also included are 15,000 sf of renovations, site improvements, and a 550-space parking lot.

CORTEX Develops St. Louis Biotech Building

Ground has been broken on a new 170,000-sf research laboratory and office facility in St. Louis for the Center of Research, Technology and Entrepreneurial Exchange (CORTEX), a non-profit collaboration of Washington University, St. Louis University, The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Designed by HOK, the $36 million project incorporates sustainable design principles and will pursue LEEDTM  certification from the U.S.

Microsoft to Expand Redmond Campus

Microsoft Corp. is planning to expand its existing 8 million-sf headquarters campus in Redmond, Wash., by approximately 2 million sf over the next ten to twenty years. The expansion will accommodate up to 12,000 additional workers. The first facility in the development plan is slated for occupancy by 2007.

City of San Antonio Designs Emergency Management Facility

The City of San Antonio has awarded Ross & Baruzzini of St. Louis the design contract for the new 30,000-sf, $25 million joint City/County Emergency Management Services Facility and Operations Center. Ross & Baruzzini will serve as an advisor during construction and manage all subcontractors for the design-build project.

Southwest Washington Medical Center Develops Vancouver Campus

Southwest Washington Medical Center began construction in January 2005 on a new 359-space parking structure on its Vancouver campus. In April construction will begin on a 307,000-sf, $146 million patient care building. The eight-story facility will include 15 new surgery suites, 154 private patient rooms, and a dedicated heart and vascular health center. Completion is expected in December 2006.
