3D Systems Relocates Headquarters to Rock Hill
Printing and prototype systems manufacturer 3D Systems Corp . is relocating its headquarters to Waterford Park in Rock Hill, S.C. The first phase of the $10-million, 75,000-sf facility will reach completion in September 2006. The developer for the project is Koll Development Co. with Choate Construction Co. as general contractor. 3D Systems will close its operations in Grand Junction, Colo., and Valencia, Calif. The next phase of the Rock Hill campus is slated for completion in late 2008.
Biovalve Technologies Expands Westborough R&D Operations
Biovalve Technologies, a manufacturer of drug-delivery systems, will expand its 23,500-sf research and development facility in Westborough, Mass., by 40,000 sf to 45,000 sf. Adding manufacturing capacity, the expansion will begin by spring of 2006 with initial clinical and commercial production beginning at the facility by the end of the year. The project represents an investment of $8 million.
Kaiser Designs Redwood City Replacement Hospital
Kaiser Permanente is planning a $200-million replacement hospital and medical office building in Redwood City, Calif. HOK has been selected to design the 212-bed hospital and parking structure with Perkins and Will as the architect for the medical office building. Drawings are expected to reach completion by year-end 2007 with construction to begin in late 2008. The facilities are expected to reach completion by mid-2011.
Intel Corp. Builds Wafer Plant in Israel
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel Corp. is initiating construction on a $3.5-billion wafer fabrication plant at its existing campus in Kiryat Gat, Israel. Slated for completion in the second half of 2008, the facility will house 200,000 sf of cleanroom space for manufacturing 300mm wafers. Additionally, Intel will complete the expansion of its plant in Ireland by the first quarter of 2006. Intel is also planning to construct another plant in Chandler, Ariz., that will produce both 300mm and 45nm wafers.
UC Berkeley to Build Starr East Asian Library
The University of California, Berkeley is initiating construction on the new 67,700-sf C.V. Starr Library at the Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies. When completed in 2007, the facility will be the first free-standing building in the United States dedicated to East Asian collections and will house more than 700,000 bound volumes, a rare book collection, a media and digital materials center, reference and periodical reading rooms, study rooms, offices, and a book processing center. The construction cost for the project is $32 million.
