McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is in the design phase of the development of the Glen Campus in Montreal. To be located on a 43-acre former brownfield site, the nearly $1.6 million (Canadian) redevelopment project will involve the creation of an academic healthcare campus and hospital dedicated to integrated clinical care, research, and teaching.

Eisai Expands in Research Triangle Park

Pharmaceutical company Eisai Incorporated will expand its footprint in Research Triangle Park, N.C. with the construction of a 65,000-sf facility. Bringing the site to a total of 225,000-sf, the $90 million plant will accommodate research and development of intravenous drug production and formulation for cancer therapies. Eisai will also construct a $15 million central utilities plant to supply power, chilled water, steam, and compressed air for both new and existing buildings. Completion of the pharmaceutical plant expansion is expected in 2009.

Animal Health Centre Constructs Abbotsford Lab

The Animal Health Centre in Abbotsford, British Columbia, will initiate construction on its Containment Level 3 laboratory in December of 2006. Enabling the Canadian province to respond more effectively to animal disease incidents, the facility will accommodate bacterial and viral testing. The $41.5-million facility will be built by Vanbots Construction and is expected to be operational by late 2007. Prior to occupancy the facility will be commissioned and tested by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Emory University Plans Woodruff Renovations

Emory University has received $261.5 million from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation to fund expansion and renovation of its healthcare and research operations. A $240-million modernization of the outpatient care facilities at the Woodruff Health Sciences Center will enable the implementation of a patient-centered treatment model supported by translational research.
