York Hospital Opens Simulation Facility
York Hospital opened its 4,500-sf medical simulation center on June 2, 2008. The $2.3 million facility will house patient simulators, a task-training room, a control room, and a debriefing room for the training of physicians and healthcare professionals. Construction began on the project in 2007. Located in York, Pa., York Hospital is community teaching hospital affiliated with WellSpan Health.
Florida A&M University Breaks Ground on Animal Healthcare Facility
Florida A&M University (FAMU) broke ground on its $1.2 million Animal Healthcare Facility in Quincy in May of 2008. Housing research facilities, a clinical lab, veterinary training facilities, and a technology center, the building will open in April of 2009.
Virtua Breaks Ground on Health and Wellness Facility
Virtua Health broke ground on a $31 million health and wellness facility in Washington Township, N.J., in late May of 2008. The 225,000-sf building will include physical and occupational therapy, a med spa and salon, a fitness center, a high risk pregnancy center, and childcare facilities. The building is part of a new hospital complex slated to open in summer of 2009. The project is designed to provide a single destination for patient healthcare needs.
University of Rochester Medical Center Opens Wilmot Cancer Facility
The University of Rochester Medical Center opened the $61 million James P. Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester, N.Y., in May of 2008. The four-story, 164,000-sf facility features the Radiation Oncology Treatment Center with five linear accelerator systems and advanced imaging technologies. The facility also houses the 5,000-sf Comprehensive Breast Care Center, the 46-chair Infusion Center, a family resource center, meditation rooms, and a three-story atrium.
Pima County Constructs Psychiatric Hospital and Recovery Center
Pima County has selected Gilbane Building Company to build two psychiatric facilities in Tucson. The 144,042-sf Psychiatric Hospital will house 80 to 100 inpatient acute care beds, psychiatric urgent and emergent care, psychiatric court hearing rooms, and basic clinical studies for neurology and psychiatry. The 64,100-sf Psychiatric Clinic Recovery Center will house comprehensive screening, assessment, crisis stabilization treatment, and triage capability.
