Taiwan Semiconductor Constructs Taipei Fab
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. broke ground on March 11, 2008 on a new R&D facility in Taipei. The $5 billion (US) project will develop next-generation 32-nanometer, 22-nanometer, and 15-nanometer technologies. Housing research, development, and manufacturing operations, the fabrication plant will create 3,000 jobs.
Phoenix Controls Launches of Theris(TM) Airflow Control Solutions for Healthcare Applications
Phoenix Controls Corporation, a Honeywell International business, announced in March of 2008 the introduction of a new family of precision airflow control products designed specifically for the HVAC needs of Healthcare facilities. Branded the Theris™ family of valves, this product line brings new value to healthcare engineers and includes features that conserve energy, reduce maintenance, and increase infection control.
Construction Begins on Sidra Medical and Research Center
The Qatar Foundation began construction in early 2008 on the Sidra Medical and Research Center in Doha, Qatar. Designed by Cesar Pelli of Pelli Clarke Pelli and executive architectural firm Ellerbe Becket, the center will provide world-class clinical care, medical education, and biomedical research facilities. Funded by $7.9 billion (US) by the Qatar Foundation, the project is located on the Education City campus near Weill Cornell Medical College.
University of Miami's Interdisciplinary Wet Lab Research Facility Nears Completion
The University of Miami will complete the ten-story, 188,000-sf Interdisciplinary Wet Lab Research Facility in spring of 2008. The facility will house laboratories, offices, interdisciplinary research groups, interaction spaces, and a vivarium. The construction manager is Moss & Associates. LEED certification will be sought for the project, which will connect to the existing Fox Research Facility on the University’s Medical Campus in Miami.
Utah State University Plans School of Business Facility
The University of Utah is planning to construct a new $40 million, 80,000-sf facility for the Jon M. Hunst School of Business. The five-story building will house auditoriums, classrooms, offices, the Ethical Leadership Center, the Global Management Center, and the Entrepreneurship Center. The project will connect on several floors to the existing school of business, which will also be renovated.
