Buffalo Bills is constructing the $2.1 billion New Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y. Designed by Populous, this vibrant football destination will seat 60,000 with expandable capacity for special events. Spanning 1.35 million sf, the technology-rich structure will offer two video boards, a state-of-the-art sound system, and broadcast facilities, as well as concessions, kitchens, and retail stores in a welcoming plaza called the Family Circle. Stacked seating across all levels will bring fans as close to 12 vertical feet from the field in the north end zone.
A 360-degree canopy, covering 65 percent of seats, will be complemented by heated concourses. To ensure optimal operation in the local climate, the open-air venue will feature the world’s largest snow-melt system, equipped with sophisticated sensors on the concave roof for monitoring and elimination. Heating through the turf will reduce snow accumulation on the field. Sited in Orchard Park near the existing Bills stadium, the fan-focused sports center will be accompanied by an 18,750-sf ancillary building.
The joint venture construction management team of Gilbane | Turner broke ground on the project in June of 2023, working in association with contractors 34 Group and Arc Building Partners. Legends is acting as project manager. New Highmark Stadium is expected to open in summer of 2026.
