California State University San Marcos is planning to construct the Integrated Science and Engineering (IS&E) building to drive innovation and growth in advanced technology and the life sciences. The 70,000-gsf structure will house the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics’ growing programs in electrical engineering, computer science, systems engineering, and software engineering. Designed by HGA, the three-story facility will address regional demand for graduates in engineering, computing, and related fields. Teaching and research labs will be complemented by multipurpose classrooms, student support areas, and staff offices. An interior lobby will also offer a café.
BNIM, in collaboration with Research Facilities Design (RFD), undertook a feasibility study for the project and developed a zero net energy (ZNE) concept design for the building, which is targeting LEED Gold certification. Featuring outdoor gathering spaces, the sustainable development will eliminate the use of natural gas by utilizing a forthcoming solar installation for renewable energy.
C.W. Driver Companies is slated to break ground in summer of 2025 on IS&E, which represents an investment of approximately $70 million. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2027.
