Muskegon Community College will renovate two historic structures to create its new engineering campus in downtown Muskegon, Mich. Designed by C2AE and MMA Architects, the project will transform the existing Muskegon Chronicle Building and the adjacent Masonic Temple into a vibrant and transparent facility for learning. Increasing usable square footage from 85,000 sf to 100,000 sf, the campus will provide classrooms and labs for programs in machining, robotics, electronics, welding, automation, renewable energy, and CAD (computer-aided design). The center will feature a maker space, a foundry, a black box theater, a materials testing lab, and a prototyping and fabrication lab. Bids for the project will be solicited in early 2016, with construction commencing in late spring. Completion is expected in May of 2017.
