Children's Hospital of Orange County Completes Holmes Tower

Children's Hospital of Orange County opened the $558 million Bill Holmes Tower in March of 2013. Located in Orange, Calif., the seven-story, 425,524-sf patient care facility was built by McCarthy Building Companies using Building Information Modeling (BIM), design-assist delivery, and strategic phasing. The tower provides inpatient rooms, dedicated pediatric operating rooms, an emergency department, an imaging suite, and a laboratory. FKP Architects of Houston was the design architect and architect of record and WBSA (Wood, Burghard & Swain Architects) of Irvine was the associate architect and construction administrator. Other project team members included Jacobs of Irvine, Calif., as construction manager; Thomsen Engineering of Industry, Calif., as civil engineer; and TMAD Taylor & Gaines of Pasadena, Calif., as structural and MEP engineer. Construction began on the facility in September of 2009 with completion in October of 2012, two months ahead of schedule.
