Department of Veterans Affairs Breaks Ground on Aurora Hospital

The Department of Veterans Affairs broke ground in November of 2011 on a 1.1 million-sf hospital campus in Aurora, Colo. The $800 million facility will include 182 beds, a spinal cord center, a research building, a nursing home, and ambulatory care facilities. The project is being built by a joint venture of Kiewit Building Group and Turner Construction and the value of the construction contract is $580.2 million. The laboratory design consultant is RFD (Research Facilities Design). The project was designed by a joint venture of H+L Architecture of Denver, SOM of Chicago, MEP engineer Cator, Ruma & Associates, and structural and civil engineer S.A. Miro. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility. Completion is expected in early 2015.
