Spectrum Health opened the $286 million Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in January of 2011. Located in Grand Rapids, the 14-story facility features private inpatient rooms, a neonatal center, a 24-bed pediatric critical care unit, a healing garden, an emergency department, a cardiac catheterization lab, an advanced diagnostic imaging suite, and six operating rooms. Ground was broken on the 462,000-sf teaching hospital in 2006. The facility is built from 95 percent recycled or salvaged materials and features a circular design with the hub at the center of each floor and patient rooms on the perimeter. The project was designed by Jonathan Bailey and built by Turner/Wolverine Construction. URS served as consulting architect and MEP engineer of record.
