Clemson University Completes Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics

Clemson University opened the 28,000-sf Harris A. Smith Building in mid-2009 in Clemson, S.C. Housing the Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, the $7 million facility supports instruction and research in packaging science, graphic communications, environmental science, manufacturing principles, and marketing. The three-story multidisciplinary facility was designed by Lord, Aeck & Sargent in collaboration with Michael Keeshen & Associates and houses laboratories, classrooms, offices, a conference room, an auditorium, and collaboration space. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility. The project team included Newcomb & Boyd as MEP/FP engineer, Dutton Engineering as civil engineer, CMC Cary Engineering as structural engineer, and Melloul-Blamey Construction as general contractor.
