Brookhaven College Breaks Ground on Continuing Education Facility

Published 3/22/2009

Brookhaven College, part of the Dallas County Community College District, broke ground on the 28,000-sf Workforce and Continuing Education Building in March of 2009. Located in Farmers Branch, Texas, the $6 million facility was designed by SHW Group of Dallas. Occupancy is slated for January 2010. More than 15 new classrooms will be built, all of which will have laptop carts so they can be used as either a traditional classroom or a computer lab. In addition, the project includes a separate computer/information technology lab, four multipurpose rooms, two conference rooms, a lobby area, break stations, departmental offices, and outdoor patios and gardens. The facility will feature low-VOC interior finishes, locally sourced materials, ample natural lighting, and a reflective roof. In addition to SHW Group as the lead architect, other project team members include project manager DMJM Management, construction manager Phillips May, MEP engineer Reed Wells Benson, landscape architect Carolyn Kelley, IT consultant Datacom Technology Group, and Charles Gojer & Associates as civil and structural engineer.
