Loma Linda University Opens Heart & Surgical Hospital

Loma Linda University opened the $110 million Heart & Surgical Hospital in Redlands, Calif., in January of 2009. The two-story, 66,000-sf facility houses 20 private beds for a total of 28 beds. Integrating the specialties of vascular medicine, cardiology, and radiology, the Heart & Surgical Hospital features six operating rooms, two catheterization labs, two procedure rooms, and advanced surgical robots. Sustainable design features of the facility include use of natural light, LED light fixtures, and reduced water consumption. The project team included developer and co-owner Cirrus Health and general contractor Marshall Erdman and Associates of Madison, Wis. Construction began on the facility in 2005.
