UC Irvine Completes Academic Medical Center

The University of California, Irvine completed the 482,428-sf University Hospital academic medical center in Orange, Calif., in September of 2008. The $375 million hospital provides 191 beds as well as research and training facilities for the UCI School of Medicine. Designed by HOK and Nabih Youssef & Associates Structural Engineers, the seven-story plus basement facility features 13 operating rooms; three interventional procedure rooms; laboratories; adult, pediatric, and neonatal ICUs; private patient rooms; a burn unit; and a connecting link to the existing tower structure. General contractor Hensel Phelps Construction began building the facility in February of 2005. Occupancy is slated for February of 2009.
