Good Samaritan Builds LEED-Certified MultiCare Hospital

Published 8/13/2008

Good Samaritan Hospital's MultiCare facility in Puyallup, Wash., is slated for completion in late 2010. LEED Silver certification for sustainable design will be sought for the 353,000-sf inpatient facility. Designed by Clark/Kjos Architects and Giffin Bolte Jurgens Architects, the patient care tower will include 80 private patient rooms, emergency, imaging, and surgery. Sustainable design elements include building orientation for minimal heat gain, reflecting light shelves for interior illumination, heat recovery, and construction waste recycling. Oversized HVAC ductwork will utilize lower air pressure so less energy is needed to move the air. The nine-story, $400 million facility broke ground in February of 2008 with occupancy expected in the first quarter of 2011.
