Loma Linda University Children's Hospital Opens Perinatal Facility

Published 5/22/2008

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital completed the 8,700-sf Maternal-Fetal Medicine Diagnostic Treatment and Research Center (MFM) in Loma Linda, Calif., in May of 2008. Designed by gkkworks and built by Turner Construction, the project involved extensive renovations to the 11-story hospital’s third floor to create a comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and management center for high risk pregnancies. The multi-disciplinary facility provides radiology, cardiology, genetics, obstetrics, perinatal biology, and neonatology services in an ambulatory care environment. The project is part of the Perinatal Institute at Children’s Hospital and began construction in August of 2007. During the construction phase, the interior of the entire wing was completely demolished and rebuilt. The most complex improvements included the addition of concrete shear walls to add structural support to the wing in the event of seismic activity and the installation of entirely new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The MFM now includes one ultrasound/procedure room, three ultrasound rooms, three non-stress testing stations, six exam rooms, 11 physician offices, and one research lab, all in one contiguous department.
