Sutter Health Plans Castro Valley Medical Center

Published 4/10/2008

Sutter Health is planning to construct a $300 million medical center in Castro Valley, Calif. Services at the seven-story, 130-bed hospital will include emergency, trauma, neuroscience, maternity, and acute care. The facility, which will feature all private beds, will house 90 medical/surgical beds, 24 critical-care beds, and 16 maternity beds. A separate 40-bed “universal care unit” will provide acute care, lab services, pre- and post-surgery care, radiation therapy, and cardiology services. Designed to meet new seismic codes, the facility will be built into the hillside slope on 19 acres near the Hayward fault and will replace the existing Eden Medical Center. The project will also include an adjacent 80,000-sf, four-story medical office building.
