The Food and Drug Administration dedicated the renovated Building One at the White Oak Federal Research Center in Silver Spring, Md., in December of 2008. Building One is the seventh White Oak structure completed as part of the FDA's consolidation project on the campus. The General Services Administration oversaw the renovation of the historic 102,000-sf, four-story facility that was originally the headquarters of the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Now accommodating portions of the FDA's Office of the Commissioner and related executive functions, Building One serves as the focal point of entry to the White Oak research campus. Housing 148 offices, nine conference rooms, and several workstations and shared business areas, the facility connects to the Central Shared Use space with access through the first floor lobby. The project was designed and constructed to meet LEED Silver sustainable design criteria.
