Homasote Earns CHPS Certification

Published 11/20/2008

Homasote, a manufacturer of recycled material building products, has earned the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Certification for its 440 SoundBarrier® products. Made from 98 percent post-consumer recycled materials, the 440 SoundBarrier is now certified for applications in a classroom environment, including bulletin boards, finished wall panels, furniture component and sound control for floors and walls. Homasote’s 440 SoundBarrier fiber board was independently tested for low emitting materials based on the requirements issued by the California Environmental Protection Agency Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). The product met all Section 1350 requirements for classroom application, including the principles of ASTM D5116 with defined product-specific test protocols of IAQ (indoor air quality) emissions. Homasote 440 SoundBarrier, a product that can help earn points toward the U.S. Green Buildings Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, will now also be listed on the Low-Emitting Materials (LEM) Table on the CHPS website, providing institutions with a list of recent classroom certified building materials.
