University of Alaska Anchorage Constructs Integrated Science Building

The University of Alaska is building the $67 million Integrated Science Building in Anchorage. Designed by ZGF Architects of Seattle and ECI/Hyer Inc., the three-story facility will be comprised of 128,000 sf plus 10,000 sf of mechanical penthouses. The project contractor is Cornerstone Construction Co. Housing teaching and research labs, offices, a vivarium, a planetarium, a large atrium, and a 445-car parking garage, the building will accommodate chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, and nursing. Construction is slated for completion in June 2009 with occupancy expected in September 2009.
