King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is planning the construction of a $12 billion research and applied sciences campus near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The cornerstone facility of the graduate research institution is expected to open in September of 2009. The University will accommodate research in biosciences, engineering, applied mathematics, computational sciences, materials science, and energy and environmental resources. Developed by Saudi Aramco, the project will feature a minimal environmental footprint while accommodating up to 20,000 faculty and staff members, students and their families in a community with housing and amenities centered around a core research campus. KAUST will partner with international universities and industry partners to create a world-class research institution.
