Published 1/31/2007

The University of Memphis in Tennessee will spend $36 million on four major infrastructure improvement projects. The first is the $15-million installation at the relocated Law School of two to three 1,000-ton chillers and three to four 100,000 pound-per-hour natural gas fired boilers to provide steam and chilled water. The project was designed by Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects of Memphis. Construction will begin in summer of 2007 with completion slated for spring of 2008.

The second project is a $13-million two-phase central plant expansion that will involve construction of a 3,750-sf building and a chilled water loop as well as valve replacement for over fifty buildings. The project engineer is SSR Ellers of Memphis. The first phase is slated for completion by year-end 2007. The second phase of the project includes installation of two 1,400-ton chillers in the new facility. Construction will begin in summer of 2008 and reach completion in early 2009.

The third project, also engineered by SSR Ellers, is a $5-million upgrade of the South campus electrical system that will begin in spring of 2008 and reach completion by the end of that year. The fourth project is the $3-million replacement of utilities at the new University Center including one 800-ton chiller and one 100,000 pound-per-hour natural gas fired boiler. The project engineer is Fisher & Arnold of Memphis with Inman Construction Corporation as general contractor. Completion is slated for spring of 2008.
