Published 7/30/2006

San Juan Regional Medical Center opened its new East Tower in Farmington, N.M., on August 17, 2006. Modeled after design concepts found in hotels and resorts, the facility is the largest part of an $80-million expansion and renovation project. The design and engineering work for the tower cost approximately $10 million. The expansion features 72 large private patient rooms, eight operating suites, elevators, day surgery rooms, a new recovery room, and a healing garden. Four rooms on every floor are isolation rooms for patients infected with airborne diseases like SARS or tuberculosis.
