Published 5/24/2006

Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) is nearing completion of construction on it's new  $145.4-million Center for Health and Healing. The 400,000-sf, mixed-use facility is engineered for a LEED Platinum rating.  OHSU expects to save $700,000 annually in energy and operating costs thanks to the building's "green" features. The 16-story structure includes eight floors of physician practices, surgery suites, and imaging facilities; three floors for a comprehensive health and wellness center; four floors for education and research activities (biomedical engineering lab space is included here); a 200,000-sf underground parking garage; and retail space on the ground floor, with a pharmacy, optical shop, and cafe.

Gerding/Edlen Development is deveoping the facility which was designed by GBD Architects. Other members of the project team include Interface Engineering (MEP); Peterson Kolberg Associates (surgery and imaging architects); The Estime Group (lab architect); KPFF (structural engineering); Otak (civil engineering); Hoffman Construction as general contractor; and Brightworks Northwest (LEED consultant).
