Published 4/3/2006

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is building a 21-story tower at Houston's Texas Medical Center. Groundbreaking for the 732,000-sf Faculty Center Tower, designed by PageSoutherlandPage, was held on November 11, 2005 with completion expected in the spring of 2008. Faculty Center Tower, which will connect via an above-grade bridge to M. D. Anderson's existing Faculty Center I building, will consolidate administrative and faculty offices and will house a medical library, a conference center, dining facility, meeting rooms, and retail functions.

The base of the building includes a first-level pedestrian arcade and a sky bridge connection to other M. D. Anderson facilities at the third level which will serve as the campus mall with a dining area, retail, and conference and training space. Skylights and exterior windows bring natural light into that space. An exterior roof terrace on the fourth level will offer additional gathering areas for faculty and staff. The top floor has been allocated to the research library. PageSoutherlandPage provided programming, landscape architecture, architecture and engineering services for the Tower and is currently providing interior space planning, interior design, and furniture selection.
