The University of Chicago has begun construction on a 396,000-sf residence hall and dining facility at its Chicago campus. Designed by architects Goody Clancy and Campbell Tiu Campbell, the project is being built by a joint venture of Gilbane Building Company, UBM, Inc., and Ardmore Associates. The new housing complex comprises a 900-bed residence hall with single and double apartment-style suites in one high-rise and two mid-rise buildings arranged around two private courtyards. The facility is intended to replace existing residential facilities while also expanding the University's overall housing capacity. Amenities include a 542-seat dining facility, a cafe, a convenience store, and study commons with computer facilities.
