Published 12/18/2005

Oregon's Department of Public Safety Standards & Training will celebrate the opening of the new Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem on July 17, 2006. Designed by Portland-based Yost Grube Halls Inc ., the $78-million campus is being built by Hoffman Construction Co. with CH2M Hill as project manager. Comprised of 300,000 sf in 12 buildings, the project will provide training for law enforcement officers in areas such as corrections, fire, parole and probations, medical dispatch, telecommunications, private security, and polygraph. The campus will include classrooms, a 350-bed dormitory, skills venues, and a cafeteria. Three environmentally-friendly indoor firing ranges will use only frangible non-lead bullets, eliminating any risk of ground pollution and protecting instructors from inhalation of airborne lead residue.
