Published 10/4/2005

Genzyme Corp. broke ground on a 177,000-sf research facility in Framingham, Mass., on October 5, 2005. The $124-million project consists of a six-story research building and a separate utilities facility that will provide services to it and three other Genzyme buildings in Framingham. The research facility will feature a six-story atrium with offices and labs designed to promote collaboration and interaction. The building will accommodate between 245 and 350 employees and will feature sustainable design technologies such as high efficiency fume hoods and advanced HVAC systems. The project team consists of Architectural Resources Cambridge; Bard, Rao & Athanas Engineers (BR+A); and Bovis Lend Lease LMB as lead contractor.  The facility is part of a $210-million investment by Genzyme in its Massachusetts facilities. An additional protein-manufacturing site is planned in Waltham.
