Published 9/20/2004

The National Institutes of Health opened the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center in Bethesda, Md., on September 22, 2004. Totally dedicated to clinical research, the 870,000-sf Hatfield Center connects to the existing Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center. The facility, designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, will open with approximately 240 inpatient beds, 80 day-hospital stations, and 250,000-gsf of laboratory and vivarium space. Laboratories and patient rooms are highly flexible and can quickly adapt to meet new requirements and changing priorities. Currently laboratory and office moves are underway, with patients occupying the new hospital in December 2004.
