Smithville Hospital Authority Plans Bastrop and Smithville Facilities

Published 3/13/2003

The Smithville Hospital Authority is involved in a $21-million project to build a hospital in Bastrop, Texas, and expand its Smithville hospital. The 50,000-sf Bastrop short-stay hospital will house obstetrics, a maternity ward, an imaging center, pharmacy, labs, and physical therapy space. The contractor for the $12-million project is Austin-based Constructors Inc. Designed by O'Connell Robertson & Associates of Austin, the 22-bed hospital will accommodate baby deliveries formerly performed at the Smithville facility.

The relocated delivery services and the addition of 29,000 sf will facilitate a $9-million expansion of the 36-bed Smithville hospital. The size of the emergency department will double, and services including radiology will be consolidated. Both projects are expected to break ground in fall 2003. Additionally, the hospital authority is planning medical office buildings totaling 50,000-sf on the 25-acre Bastrop hospital site.
