Kaiser Permanente Breaks Ground on Panorama City Replacement Hospital

Published 11/13/2003

Kaiser Permanente broke ground on November 14, 2003 on a new replacement hospital and central plant at the Panorama City Medical Center in Panorama City, Calif. The 400,000-sf, six-level building will be sited adjacent to the existing facility and will connect to it at the basement level. The project will meet the new seismic requirements for all general acute-care California hospitals imposed by Senate Bill 1953. Contractor McCarthy, based in Newport Beach, Calif., will construct the hospital and utility plant as well as partially refurbishing the basement of the existing structure and converting it from a cafeteria to a materials management area. Designed by project architect Anshen + Allen of Los Angeles, the new hospital will feature a state-of-the-art inpatient care diagnostic and treatment facility accommodating Critical Care and Acute Care Nursing; Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery; Labor and Delivery; and Neonatal ICU. Construction is expected to begin in December of 2003 and reach completion in June of 2007.
