Purdue University is developing Phase 3 and 4 of the Heine Pharmacy Laboratory renovation project. The National Center for Research Resources at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded $2,970,000 to fund the four-phase renovation of over 20 laboratories in the Robert E. Heine Pharmacy Building that support NIH-sponsored research. Total cost for the project, with matching funds form Purdue, will reach approximately $6 million. The renovation is the result of more than five years of comprehensive planning, and will combine many smaller labs to create larger updated research laboratories with separate space allocated for offices and computer use. Safety will be a feature of the new facility, which includes extra fume hoods and vented cabinets for chemical storage. The project, slated for completion in 2003, will accommodate the growing national demand for pharmacy graduates and research.
