McGill Environmental Systems Expands With Triangle Facility

Published 9/5/2002

McGill Environmental Systems, one of North Carolina's largest composting companies, is building a new 90,000-sf facility near Merry Oaks. The $3-million facility will process 2000,000 tons of waste annually, more than doubling McGill's current capacity. The plant will convert industrial waste from timber products, food processor grease-trap waste, and wastewater residuals into fertilizer and ornamental landscaping materials. Sited on 40 acres, the plant will feature concrete floors to prevent groundwater contamination and eight-foot-tall concrete walls within a separate steel building to control odors. The facility will eventually employ 15 workers and is scheduled to begin operations on November 1st.
