Idec Pharmaceuticals is planning a five-building, 470,000-sf biotech factory in Oceanside. The $500-million complex, with a 90,000-liter biologic manufacturing capacity, will be sited on 60 acres and will be comparable in size to Disneyland. Compliance with the strict validation rules of the FDA as well as the rigorous control and environmental standard of European regulators will enable the plant to be certified on both continents. The biotech company expects a new drug to be approved in 2007 or a year after the new factory enters production.
