Texas Tech University System has selected Detroit-based SmithGroup to provide programming, design architecture, engineering, and master planning services for a new Health Sciences Center Research Facility in El Paso. The facility, scheduled for completion in December of 2005, is the first building of a planned four-year medical school and new regional Health Sciences Center Campus for the Texas Tech University System. The Research Facility will provide approximately 90,000 sf of modern research space to support research in diabetes, infectious diseases, and environmental health issues. The facility will contain both wet labs and computer-based research laboratories for investigators, clinicians, and required support staff. Core facilities will include an imaging center, vivarium, radioisotope labs, a high-tech auditorium, seminar/conference rooms, as well as office space for the Border Health and West Texas Diabetes Institutes.
