Netherlands-based pharmaceutical company Diosynth is planning a two-phase purchase of 91.3 acres in Research Triangle Park (RTP) with plans to add over 300,000 sf of new manufacturing space. Diosynth's purchase of the first 40 acres will be completed this summer, with an option at year-end on the remaining land. Now occupying 30,000 sf of Cary lab and office space and 110,000 sf of RTP manufacturing space, Diosynth currently has 600 Triangle employees. Diosynth, a manufacturer of drugs for companies involved in clinical trials, plans to begin full-production manufacturing of approved drugs in the new facility. Expansion plans should be finalized by the end of 2002 when construction is slated to begin on a 40,000-sf warehouse, with the manufacturing expansion to follow. Diosynth has also signed a pre-lease of 50,000 sf in a new Morrisville office building designed by Little and Associates Architects and built by Clancy & Theys. Located in the Town Hall Commons, the space will consolidate all of the company's U.S. personnel. Diosynth's parent company, Akzo Nobel, is growing its Oss, Netherlands operations with a $16.75-million manufacturing expansion geared toward biotech applications.
