Willis Eye Hospital Under Construction

Published 2/27/2002

Willis Eye Hospital is developing a new 150,000-sf hospital in Philadelphia. The purchase of air rights enabled construction of the 14-story office and medical facility on top of an existing office and parking garage, a challenge for architect Andre Zlotnicki of HLM Design. Addition of an external glass elevator will enable patrons to access the hospital, which commences on the seventh floor. Unlike the Willis Eye Hospital's previous facility, the new building will be mostly "bedless", with floors nine through 13 of the new facility providing primarily outpatient services. Research, education, administration and library facilities will occupy the remaining floors. The $50-million project, managed by Granary Associates and built by general contractor P. Agnes Inc., is slated for completion in June of 2002.
